The Pixui, also known as the Chimera, is a mythical creature revered in Chinese lore. Depicted as a powerful winged dragon with the lower half of a lion, the Pixiu is known as the preserver, container, and storer of wealth. The ancient creature is celebrated for the fact that it could store all the gold, silver, and jewels that one could imagine; thus, it became a bastion of security, preservation, and the storage of wealth! The reverse side, designed by famed artist, Ing Ing Jong, depicts two Pixiu, with remarkable attention to detail. Tasteful texturing is applied to convey the power and dominance of domain of the Pixiu as they sit atop a pile of pure gold coins, with a crystal orb in one’s paw, and a baby Pixiu in the others. The detailing is enhanced with an oriental border which features in only the coin’s upper half.

The obverse holds Jody Clarke’s modern effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The artist’s rendering if once again brought to life with Perth’s exceptional minting techniques and standards. The effigy is encapsulated by a ring containing information about the weight, purity, face value, and year of issue.
